CREATING HAPPIER WORKPLACES: Attracting and keeping good staff is essential but also, increasingly difficult. Many organisations are struggling with the fact they need to get more done, with fewer staff and less resources; not to mention having to somehow deal with the rising costs associated with absenteeism, presenteeism (being at the office but not really productive) and turnover, which are undeniably significant.
TEACHING AND GROWING HAPPY KIDS: Raising and teaching children to be successful and happy is a goal shared by both teachers and parents alike. Optimistic children are happy children. Happy children grow up to be more successful and have more quality relationships. Understanding the part that resilience, optimism, strengths and goals plays in the development of children to healthy happy adults is the key.
What makes you happy? Do you feel a sense of purpose with your life? What we know is that happy people live longer; have clear goals and life direction; and are more successful in life. Research strongly suggests that happy people have both more and better quality relationships. This refers to intimate personal relationships as well as all our social and interpersonal interactions. Unhappiness is often a result of spending too much time dwelling on the past or worrying about the future. In contrast, happy people spend much more of their time living in the moment.
